Shining Star – January 2021

Karen Kunst, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent/CEO

Nominated by: Peggy Whitcomb & Ellen McClure

With the district since August 2014, Karen is deserving to be recognized as a Shining Star because she is one of our brightest stars!

What does the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent/CEO do and how does she impact everyone in the district, including students?

Karen works with almost all staff members. She interacts with parents, which has a direct impact on students. She also works directly for all five Board of Education members. And, she works closely with our community leaders.

Here ability to interact well in so many “people” arenas has had a positive impact on the Superintendent’s office and the district. She is our “go-to” person.

Her professionalism and caring is a combination that puts even the most upset person – whether a staff member or a parent – at ease. Parents know they can count on her to answer her phone and provide the much-needed information they need for their child. If she doesn’t know an answer, then she quickly finds one.

In her time with the district, Karen has streamlined administrative duties in the Superintendent’s office by creating new forms and updating old forms which have made a huge impact on the work flow of business throughout the district. She has taken this position to an entirely different level by embracing new technology, creating and managing the district website. She has helped to bring the administrative staff into the digital age. All of this has had a positive impact on our staff, parents, students and community.

She is also the silent partner in the Superintendent’s office. The Superintendent knows, without a doubt, that he can depend on her to put out fires when he is away from the office, keep him on track and keep things calm.

Karen will be deeply missed when she retires. Karen hit the ground running her first day of work in the district and she continually strived to move the district forward each and every day.
