Purple Star Designation Supports Military Families, Children In District

Purple Heart Icon

Approximately 35,000 students in Ohio are members of military families. Frequent moves and family separations through deployments, as well as reintegration issues make life especially challenging. The Ohio Department of Education’s Purple Star Designation was established as a way to support Ohio’s military families and children.

The Cuyahoga Falls City Schools has embraced Purple Star as part of our “Culture of Caring” – with one of our schools (Richardson Elementary) earning the prestigious Purple Star Award.

Our Purple Star Designation provides a wealth of resources, including our “Operation Care Kit” (a backpack given to our military children), and support throughout the year.

Please take part in our survey if you are a military family (active or retired). Survey information will be shared with both the Principal and School Counselor in the school that your child attends.

Contact Peggy Whitcomb, Military Family Coordinator at 330-926-3800 ext. 502020 or if you have questions or suggestions on how we can best support you.
