Mask requirement for all

District Shield

Cuyahoga Falls City School District is committed to the safety and well-being of our students and community. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have continually monitored the status of virus spread in our area and surrounding communities. With the recent spike in cases and the effects of large quarantines on in-person learning, CFCS will be requiring masks, during the school day, for all students, staff and visitors regardless of their vaccination status beginning September 7, 2021. Mask wearing is strongly encouraged until that time. After four weeks, the mandate will be reassessed.

Prevention will be our strongest ally in the spread against COVID-19 and keeping our students in school. This includes following the federal mandate requiring facial coverings on all public transportation, including school buses. It is also important for parents to keep students home who are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, until cleared by their primary care provider to return to school activities.

Along with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Ohio Department of Health and Summit County Public Health, the district strongly encourages vaccination for those students and staff who are eligible and in good health. Masking and vaccination have been proven as effective layers of protection against the spread of COVID-19, and will be our best tools in preventing quarantine and in keeping students in school buildings for in-person instruction.

We are not immune to the effects of this pandemic.  While our case rates remain steady at 10 or less per day, these cases result in quarantines of more than 100 persons each day. Based on guidance from the Ohio Department of Health, mask requirements will drastically reduce students and staff required to quarantine resulting in more time for in-person education.

We are not alone in battling the logistics of this virus spread and its effect on education. Many neighboring districts are facing similar challenges, and have also moved to mask mandates to protect students and staff. These districts include Stow, Akron, Tallmadge, Hudson, Kent and many others.  As a community, our combined efforts and collaboration will be our best line of defense.

The current mask mandate will continue through October 1.  We will reevaluate the circumstances during the last week of September. We ask for your cooperation as we move to this level of prevention.

We appreciate your support in keeping Cuyahoga Falls City Schools a safe place to learn.
