Dear Black Tiger Family,

Over the past two weeks, the dramatic spike in COVID numbers have impacted all of us to the point that Summit County Public Health issued a Stay at Home Advisory.  While the Advisory did not require schools to make a change, it did suggest that changes in modality may become necessary based on the number of cases in school and in the community.

As we’ve evaluated case numbers in school and in our community, we’ve found it difficult to staff classrooms due to the increased absences brought on by positive COVID-19 cases. This challenge has been magnified by the increasing recommendations for student and staff quarantine due to exposure to the virus. Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be any relief in December.

Therefore, beginning Monday, November 30th, all Cuyahoga Falls City School District students – in all grade levels - will move to all-remote learning (grades K-12). There will be no in-school instruction through Thursday, December 17th. Winter Recess will begin on Friday, December 18th.  We will return to remote instruction January 4th through January 19th. This will allow a two-week period after the holiday season for COVID-19 numbers to be evaluated.  There may be some exceptions with regard to career technical education students and special needs students.  Those situations are being evaluated currently.

No one feels more strongly about the benefits of in-person learning than I do as demonstrated by our attempts to bring our K-5 students back into the classroom this past week. However, it’s also apparent that – at this time – returning to remote learning is the wisest and safest decision for all involved. Many area health officials and surrounding school districts agree.

Please note that our staff will continue to report to the schools daily to conduct their lessons, and be a constant support to your child and family.  We will provide additional information regarding the students' schedule and food service tomorrow; while the schedules may look similar to the beginning of the school year, some modifications will be made to better serve our students.

Thank you for your understanding and support during this difficult time. Be well, stay safe and – as always - Go Black Tigers!
